When I push my parking brake in the light usually never comes on. Once in a great while it will, is this just the bulb going bad or do you think there is a bigger problem?

Is there resistance on the pedal as you push it down? In other words, is it holding properly?

if the light comes on then it means your parking brake is on, so if the light isnt coming on then your brake isnt working, hopefully u only need pads. also, when u first turn key on to start the engine the light will come on for a second, u can see if its blown out that way

You guys are over analyzing. He just wants to know why sometimes his brake light comes on when he uses his parking brake, and other times it does not.

This is caused by a loose wire the the back of the parking brake lever, (park brake switch) that activates the brake light when the park brake it is pushed down. My Bronco II did this, as well as my '00 Sport. It just works loose.
