Hi all. This is my first question on explorerforum. The coil spring of the parking break handle broke. Does anyone knows the part number or where to find a equivalent coil spring?

Here you can see the place where it broke:

I don't have the missing part of the spring, so I don't know its original length. My car is a 2005 Ford Explorer 4.6V8.

Looks like a Ford Dealer only Part. The number on the illustration (2A709) is not the actual part number to order from Ford.

You can start here to check for parts by VIN: http://www.fordparts.com/Default.aspx

I searched for Brake > Brake Hardware to find the above illustration.

Thank you for your answer miker104.

From the image, it seems like 2A709 is not the part because of the location and the fact there are two of them. I think that them part I'm looking for is inside the big "Parking Brake Assembly". But I'm not willing to pay $133.52 for a minute spring.

So I'll keep looking for a similar spring.

I don't think you can buy just the spring. The handle on mine broke and the Ford dealer said I would have to buy the whole unit. Maybe you can look around and see if you can find something that's close and see if it works.

Just to address same issue with a resolution. I too had the same problem on 2003 Ex. Spring not available thru Ford, have to buy entire assembly. Go to Orchard Supply Hardware and get an extension spring. Their item number is #75U. Specs are as follows: 1-3/8" Length, 7/16" Outside diameter and .042 wire gauge.

I took wire cutter and took 1/16" off of the loop end on both sides and using needle nose pliers opened the end slightly on one end. The now larger opened end I hooked onto the rod side (towards door) of the mechanism and the other end was hooked over the hole on the flange side which is closer to the firewall of parking brake mechanism. Used needle nose pliers to replaced spring. No more loosee goosee handle and feels just like like new. 2 minute job. The cost? $2.39
