Hey everyone, I have been searching on here and haven't found what I needed.

I am getting ready to order new idler pulleys and a tensioner for my 2000 Mountaineer 5.0, and I am seeing multiple part numbers and am unsure of which ones I need.

I am planning on ordering from summit and going with all goodyear gatorback parts (belt too) Here is what I am seeing: Link to Summit

Thanks, Josh

one of the idlers at Summit is 76mm diameter and the other is 90mm diameter. Which is yours?

A while back I copied and saved this information from Goodyear's site for my '99 5.0 (which is virtually identical to the 2000):

Yep, I saw that and my error was assuming that both of the idler pulleys were the same.

The top is 90mm, and the bottom is the 76.

On Summits site, it says that the bottom 76mm pulley is smooth, but on my truck its ribbed? any idears?

Anyway, would this get me going?

I've found inconsistencies on Summit's site many times in the past. Go the the source at Goodyear like I did.

Goodyear Partfinder

I love the Goodyear Gatorback. My truck's belt used to make all sorts of noise before I made the switch.

yes it has AC, I didnt even think A/C was an option.

Thanks for the link celly, I am heading there now.

I used your list to look them up on summit, and I just checked out Goodyears site, and out of all three of their pulleys, none of them are ribbed. What gives? :)

What about 49021? (not sure if that's the one you're looking for):

Yeah, I linked that one in post #4. I found it in your list, and thought that was the one, but I didn't see it listed for my mountaineer on either summit or the Goodyear site, so I wasn't sure.

I just replaced the upper idler pulley on my 97 Mounty 5.0. (Hoping it wasn't the CPS - it was. But the new pulley can't hurt - searching on the forum, people seem to think they should be thought of as a normal replacement part anyway. At least thats what I told the wife.)
Anyhow, the OEM was grooved with a flange, like the 49021 pictured. But none of the parts places (Napa, Carquest, or AA) could find a grooved pulley for me - every one only listed the smooth non-flanged. This was for the 97s, and I had them look for 96, 98, rangers, etc. No grooved/flanged pulley listed in their systems.
So, I went ahead and bought the smooth one, thinking Ford must have made some change and determined the grooved/flanged pulley wasn't necessary. Its been working fine for about 500 miles now.
BTW, I'm pretty sure my lower idler pulley is smooth - when I first got the replacement, I was SURE they had sold me the lower, not the upper, b/c they look identical. Thats why I physically took the OEM to 3 different local shops - to show them what I was looking for. (This similarity is what led me to conclude Ford made the design change - why use 2 parts when you can use 1 design for both.)
Don't know if this helps you make any decisions, but I thought I'd add my experience with this same issue.

Thanks for the info, but that lower idler pulley on mine is grooved, and I would think there would be some detrimental effects of running the ribs of the belt on a smooth pulley. They have the ribs there for a reason, I would think.

I just don't feel comfortable replacing a ribbed idler with a smooth one...
