2001 Ford Explorer XLT
Hello everyone,

I just purchased a 2001 Explorer XLT and it has an issue where the front passenger door will not lock by any electronic means (Power Buttons, Keyless Remote, or Keypad). It WILL unlock properly by these electronic means. Right now I just have to reach over and manually lock it when I leave the car.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Also, I noticed that the door will lock halfway if I use the button in the rear of the truck by the liftgate.

you have a linkage problem in the door IF there is any "noise" when you use any button or remote. Lots of posts, you have take off the panel and check some of the plastic pieces which tend to break / move.

it could also be the rivit that hold the actuator to the door. it wears out and breaks over time you would have to pull the actuator out and put a bolt to hold it to the door. look on the right side of the door from the inside about 3/4 way down there should be a rivit there. if not then it broke. I just had to do this to my 95 xlt on the same door. I had already replaced it on the dr door a couple yrs ago.

I have a very similar issue on mine...

The rear passenger's door will lock fine by electronic means, but won't unlock. I opened it up already and the linkage is fine from the manual lock leaver / switch on the inside of the door itself, just above the handle. The clips supporting the rod from the manual level back to the lock mechanism appears to be solid and attacked...

However, I was in the middle of three other repairs at the same time just wanted to check the rod based upon a pic I saw in another thread here. LOL

I'll try to check it again today if the weather holds up and see about actually removing the mechanism from the door this time if I can get the rod from the manual lock handle off without breaking the clips... (I read that they usually break when you take it out and since I don't have any I can't afford to break anything since I have to take my son to his mom's tomorrow...)
