Pats question

I was just wondering what years they started the PATS in, my 97 doesnt have it because I always use a spare key to start the truck, but I am not too sure about my wife's 96, it has black plastic on the wide part of the key. Anyway, I just wanted to know how I can tell if the PATS system is in my wife's 96 EX cause I am putting a remote start in it soon, and don't want any surprises.

I'm pretty sure they didn't start using the PATS system until 98 your wife's 96 doesn't have the PATS system.

Yeah, it was '98. I think you'd could probably run a '98+ key in a 95-97 lock, which may be what is going on with your '96.
