Between another thread I have troubleshooting my Ex and digging around here I see that having the same catch code is key when swapping a PCM. There is a consistent flow of Exs showing up at the local yards, but the vast majority of them are v6s.

My question is what PCMs are most likely compatible? I have a 2000 Ex 5.0 AWD.

A 2000 Mounty 5.0 AWD showed up recently, the Mounty that I had ran a 5R55E tranny and I have the 4R70W; Does the PCM care about the Tranny?

And if the local yards don't pan out, anyone have a suggestion for where to buy a PCM? Oddly enough I can't find a PCM listed on rockauto.

Thanks ya'll.

99-01 explorer or mountaineer 5.0

Rwd or awd does not matter as far as the computer is concerned

All 5.0 explorers use the same 4r70w transmission
Your pcm controls the engine and the transmission only
You must stick with 99-01 but any 5.0 you find in this year range the pcm will work for you
However!!!! You must also get the pats module and ignition key from the donor pcm
The pats module is behind the passenger airbag
The ignition key and tumbler must match the pats module which must match the pcm

That 2000 mountaineer will work for you but you must get the pcm, the ignition key and tumbler and the pats module. All 5.0 explorers use the 4r70w. The 5r55e is a v6 automatic

The door and tailgate locks would be a bonus so you have one key that fits everything

I must have been mistaken what tranny was in that old Mounty, it's been ~10 years.
The chances of finding the ignition key in the yard are slim to none from my experience.

I did some reading about clearing the PATs with ForScan, is that an option for swapping the PCM?

Yes that is an option you can program around the pats
Forscan and a pc required for those abilities

You maybe surprised the keys are often zip tied or cable tied to the steering column and yards are happy to sell them and the electrics that go with them

What happened that makes you think you need a pcm?

Here's the thread on what I've been chasing: P1151 - 2000 Ex v8

The way the fuel trims and O2 sensor are acting doesn't make sense to me.

I'd like to swap PCMs to rule that out.
