The worst service I've ever encountered. Tried to rip me off. Can't fix a simple idle problem - even with their "diagnostic expert". Adam, the service manager is lousy and is pushing me out of his garage - sending me to a Ford dealer due to their incompetence. I have a Guardian warranty and they are the only people around where I can get any service.

I actually have had great experiences with Pep boys. Both in New York and in Colo. I have had every issue resolved professionally and reasonably quick. It one case they picked up the bill for someone else's work and even towing for an alternator that went bad under there warrantee without a Pep Boys in the area. Not too bad for a part that only cost me $80. I have not used anybody else for repairs in 3 years...and probably will continue. Not an issue with my X because it is under warrantee, but for my car and by girlfriend car they do all the work. You may want to consider calling the corporate folks and tell your story. Large corporations tend to want to keep you happy. As the old saying says people with a good experience tell 10 people someone with a bad one tells 100.

When it comes to driveability problems, like you are having, there are few places that have a clue how to diagnose and fix it. SOME Ford service departments can help, SOME ma and pa type places canhelp, but places like Pep Boys, etc dont have a clue.

Now why dont we try to fix your problem ourselves?

You mentioned that you had an 02 sensor going out, what makes you think this? Has it been tested?

I assume you have cleaned the MAS sensor, and the IAC valve?

Also have you checked the following:
Lower intake manifold bolts
Fuel pressure (regulator and canister purge valve)
EGR (if equipped) and upper intake (clean)

Hehe I used to work for Gyp Boys a couple years ago, upper management sucked, lower management was cool till they got some loser who couldn't figure out the rules. I got tired of their game and the crap they pulled on me. I was one of their most knowledgable countermen too! granted I don't know everything about cars, but I can usually find weird stuff for people when the other counter help didn't have a clue.

I went back in there a couple days ago after being out of there for 4 years and was put off by the lousy service they still give.

this was in the Richardson store, which also is the regional HQ as well.

Pep Boys is exactly what it says. They have BOYS working cars rather than MEN.

My brother-in-law went to work for them as a mechanic. When they hired him he did not even know how to do a brake job on his mom's front 94 Buick with disc brakes.

I had to walk him through it. That is why I never go to Pep Boys and/or Wal-Mart.

Anyone who thinks they are a mechanic can work there.

I too agree. Just to let you know how stupid they really are, my friend went in there and asked for brake pads for his Ranger and instead gave him some for a Ford Taurus. Idiots.

I have had friends & Relitives who have worked for the bums. They do not care about the quality of parts, or the level of service they give.

I have heard that they get alternators from suppliers that do not distribute quality parts, and when you call them on it, they will do everything to make you think differently. (Stated from a relitive who worked for them)
