Hey just wondering if anyone on here has used a performance chip on there explorer or mountaineer? If you have could you tell me what kind you used and what it added to your vehicle?
I was looking at the PowerBox from autochipsdirect.com for $69.99 and I contacted the company and the person I talked to guaranteed me that my vehicle(1997 Mercury Mountaineer 5.0L Engine) that I would gain 30-35 more Horsepower and 4 more miles per gallon.
If anyone has used the powerbox I'd love to hear how it worked for you, I read some testimonials on there site and they have all be great reviews on the product and also saw a couple videos people have summited about the product.
I'm really interested in this so let me know! Thanks!!

Well it plugs into the mass air flow sensor and its supposed to program it to allow more air into the engine which increases the power and efficiency of the motor

If there's a money back guarantee try it out and let us know

I didn't see anything on the site but I e-mailed customer service and asked about it so now I just have to wait for them to get back with me and see what they say

It's just hyped up eBay resistor junk.

Below is pry what you will see inside... a 5¢ Radio Shack resistor...

Google "powerbox" chip junk", or similar, to see some "not positive" results.

i chuckled at that one... also the reviews on THEIR site seamed good.. how does that not raise any red flags? I wouldnt trust a "user review" from their own site..
but hey if they have a money back then try it and let us know.. I Would be interested to buy if it works like they say

Alright, I'll definitely look at some before making my final choice

I asked customer service if they have a money back or not so when they email me back I'll make my decision on if I'm going to get one or not

A motor is like a big air pump..sucks air in then pumps it out, with the help of the combustion processes.
But anyways how much air it can suck in is limited to some parameters.
Things like valve size, bore and stroke, cam angles and more scientific things that are to complicated for my little mind!

Sooo are you saying just get a new air intake? lol

The best thing if you really want to race it is to start out with some 4:56's in the rear..since I think you said you are 2wd it would be fairly cheap if you could find a used unit.
Best bang for the buck in a 1/8 mile run.
Take off a few cats and run some big pipes.
Trust me you are more limited by exhaust then intake.

Mines AWD but I removed the front drive shaft because it got damaged, but I'm not too sure if I'll be racing it. I was mainly just looking for something that will give me a little better gas mileage and a little more power

Try an replacing the manual fan for an electric one. There is some more power and gas mileage for you.
