Performance mods for 5.0L

as far as i know, thats only because the service port may be disabled. if you can solder, you can re-enable it. either way, a junkyard 'puter would be cheap if yours wouldnt take a program.

I agree with these guys, you need an exhaust system! That thing is corked up. A nice cat-back with really wake it up. We have the 3" cat-back system from Mac Products for $271.95. This has a chamber style muffler like a Flowmaster and has a nice tone. We also have the Pro-M 75mm Mass Air Sensor. It is available in chrome or black $244.95. It would go great with the K & N and the high performance exhaust system. THere is no throttle body upgrade that is a direct bolt on. You can make intended for a 5.0 Mustang work if you fabricate the linkage. If you want to go to the next level of performance we always have the X-Charger. This is an Eaton based supercharger that is good for 85 HP at the rear wheels. It works great on a stock engine and offers awsome lowend boost. We are about to launch a special on the V8 supercharger kit........$2999. While supplies last.

Might I add that the MAC exhaust has quite the tone! (almost identical to a flowmaster 40 series non-delta) It really made my truck open up at higher RPM's too!

John -- please let me know when you begin offering the v8 x-charger for the special price!!!

Special Price for V8 X-Charger!

I guess now is a good time. Effective immediately. The ZD5555 V8 X-Charger on sale for $2995. This includes everything required to install the kit including instructions and tech support. This kit is also smog legal & upgradable! We only have two left at this price.

We have it in stock & ready to go.

Hey John, could a car noobie install the cat-back exhaust system you offer on a 1998 5.0???

i would not use a intake pipe that small nore would i use that small of a mass air. i would go with a 80mm pro-m no smaller.

The cat back system we sell for the 5.0 is fairly easy to install. The hardest part is removing the old system. You could cut the back of the system off or just wrangle it out the back. The new one has the hangers all in the right spots. It would be helpfull to get it up on ramps or jack stands to do this job. Let me know if you have any questions.

We also have 80mm Pro-M Mass Air Sensors Available. The 75mm is very efffective when used with average mods (intake, exhaust, Apten Chip). You really need a larger throttle body to take advantage of a large MAF. There is currently none available made to directly fit a 5.0 Explorer. You can use an upgrade from a 5.0 Mustang but you would have to custom fabricate the linkage. Larger injector size and a supercharger would also work well with a 80mm or larger mass air sensor!

John V.- Does Explorer Express have exhaust headers for the 5.0 Explorers.

Sorry, We no longer have a source for the 5.0 headers. We have been searching since they were discontinued by Ford Motorsport. Sometimes you will see them on E-Bay. The 1996 ones are found more often. They will work, but you need the fitting for the EGR welded on. There has been talk of having custom headers made, but it would be expensive.

John, by 'upgradable' I take it you have gotten some different pulley sizes now? What did you find, and what's the cost?

i heard there are no pulleys that fit X's. and if there were, you wouldnt want them.

Cobra XP is referring to pulleys for the superchager to make more boost, but underdrive pulleys. Underdrive pulleys are the last thing you would ever want with a blower

I wouldn't run underdrives on a stock engine, much less with the EE setup. The Eaton makes way too much heat as it is...

I am meaning a smaller oulley for the Eaton to increase boost. I think getting it up to around 8lbs is the best that it is going to do...

Man o man! Let me check my bank acount!

John - when you run out of these two stocked Eaton superchargers, does EE have plans to keep selling chargers for the 5.0, say a year or two from now?

X-Charger Upgrade Pulley

We do have a 2.4" pulley available for $110. It would be a good choice for the mods you have.

We do have plans to order more superchargers. As far as the future of the 5.0 supercharger, it depends on the availability of the blower units from Eaton. We know that they will not be available forever. We get ours from Magnussen Products. They are the licensed aftermarket distributor and rebuilder for Eaton superchargers. They also make the special snout required to install the M90 on a 5.0 Explorer. It would be possible to come up with a Thunderbird SC & have it rebuilt. They will be able to service these units for many years to come.
