OK first its in the charging system. Got a new alt, Battery, new belt.
The little battery light is on on the dash. The voltmeter reads in the lower of "normal" about the first leg of the "n"
A multi meter tells me there is only 11 volts in the battery. HAVE a 800 CCA battery.
The local ford place just jerked me around and said a battery was all i needed !! Wrong !! still didnt fix it.
Is There a fuse in between the alt. and the battery?
I think the haynes says there is but I can find it? Will that fix it?
Need answers Pronto B4 July!!
Person who tells me get $ via paypal.
Thanks

There is a fuse for the alt. When my alt. went out it took the fuse with it. Replaced the alt. and the battery light still came on. Replaced the alt. twice before I noticed it. The fuse is in the box under the hood. If you replaced the alt. it should still have enough power to run the truck fine, just not all the way. :) I do take it that when you replaced the alt. you replaced the voltage regulator. Most new alt. do come with a new one so I'm guessing you did. I'd check the fuse box under the hood.

I'd also like to welcome you to the site. You'll find everything and anything all right here.

Nope that fuse is still good

The alt field fuse in the box under the hood is new b/c when this problem started it blew it like 5 times.
Then I just put a bridged fuse in there till I could drive to Autozone.

I would try replacing the batery cables. I read often that the cables corrode inside and cause a weak connection. Just an idea. Let me know if it fixes it if you do it!

will try it

will try

I want to say I think people had this problkem in the positive cable mostly, but don't quote me on that. Good luck fixing it!

I know what the problem is: You bought an Explorer!!! Welcome to the world of constant repairs. Not to say that I don't love my Exploder, but I am always fixing something.

Now where is my money????

You think that will fix it?
Gonna do it tommarrow.
And dirty sanchez you didnt help too much.

In order for the battery to charge, the voltage across the battery when the engine is running should be around 13.8 to 14.2 volts. If it is 11 volts when the engine is running, the battery is not charging and a dirty connection (even though it may be tight) could cause enough resistance in the connection to not allow current to get through and charge the battery. If the battery is not drawing current through the alternator field the charge light will light on the dash. Any idea what was causing that fuse to blow? There may be a wire elsewhere that has burned though causing an open and not passing current to the battery for charging.

There has been an issue with the positive battery cable corroding inside of the terminal. My '92 had it. It wouldn't start, but I still had all my lights at full brightness. The corrosion on mine was between the wire to the starter and the battery, but I've heard cases where it is on the other lead. Take an ohmmeter and look at the resistance between the battery terminal and the other end of the cables (usually 2 wires) If you have resistance that is in the 'ohms' range you are probably ok. If it is in kohms or Mohms, you most likely have a bad cable. They are a b***h to run properly, so it's a lot easier to check it before you rip it out.

I think irtysanchez got it right :) Its a explorer. These types of problems tend to happen often.

I hear the cables are *****in hard to replace. At least thats what the mechanic was whining about. :)

i recently ran into this problem, mine wouldn't start. I replaced the starter the altinator the relay and still nothing. After takeing jump wire and going directly to the started i diduece that it had to be the line to the starter. But before i ran a new one, i went to the local audio shop and had him put on gold connectors, whith several inputs including a Large ring type screw down. The only reason I had him do it was becuase he had the 2gw crimper. and vice grips don't cut it. he also used a "petrolium jelly stuff to keep the corosion from forming again. I've started everytime since.

gremlins!

last year my '92 Ranger had mystery electrical problems, that killed the battery. replaced the battery and it was fine... for a week, then i replaced the starter solenoid on the fender and that helped for a day or two, had the alternator checked and it was fine. turned out to be a bad STATER. replaced that and it ran fine until the clutch slave blew a seal... it's still sitting in the driveway waiting to get fixed.

well yall missed it .. It was a broken or cut altinator cable.. the one off the back of the thing. when the cable made connection it would blow the fuse. Took me a couple cases of budweiser and a day but I found it.

Oh darn...no $ for me I guess....

i think i know what is wrong

I just recently tried installing subwwofers in my 98 explorer xlt and it went fine, but after about a day, the bettery died and it wouldnt charge. We thought it was the alt. but it still stopped rechargin and died every couple days. It turned out that a wiring harness in the back of the cd playewr burnt out or something an cuased the alt. to put out less power.
