So I'm picking up a used 5R55E from a yard about an hour away (75k miles so I hope it'll be good). I'll be having a shop put it in, but just was wondering if there's anything I should maybe do to it while it's in hand (hehe)? Also, about how much do those things weigh? Do you think a friend and I will have any problems lugging it around?

Also is the 5R55e in a 1999 = to a 2001, or will there be problems? I should be sure of that before dropping the bones on it.

Thanks!

You and a friend won't have any problem putting it in a truck. But I'd make sure there are no extra sensors or anything with the two diff years. You also need to find out if the one you have now is a 4R44E or the 5R55E. I think they used them both in those years. Maybe ask in the tranny section. Also, it says you have a Mounty. Is it a 5.0?

It's a 4.0l, and I do have the 5r55e. The 2nd and 5th gear ratio incorrect codes it threw at one point proved that :). I posted over in the tranny section too, we'll see what I get.

Thanks!

I can carry one of those by myself, you and a friend should be able to handle it without any problems. Make sure you put a moving pad or tarp underneath it, or you will wind up with oil spots from it coming out the tubes for the cooler or the hole for the dipstick.

Before you pick it up, have a sniff of that fluid and make sure it is not burnt. Drain all the fluid and change the filter before you bring it to the shop. No sense paying them for something that is easy to do on your own.

For anyone who finds this thread while searching the same thing: The tranny was exactly the same and works perfectly. Well, exactly the same except that it works :). Fluid was clean and bright. No shift flare, works great.
