Pinging Solved! Question though.

Took it to the shop and my dad picked it up. My dad told me two silicon tubes that connect to the exhaust blew off causing it to sound like it was pinging under any pressing of the gas pedal. Anybody know what these are? Anyway, the truck runs perfectly now and idles decently, although not perfectly. Oh well, time to retorque the manifold bolts. Thanks

Wow... I'm starting to think that that's what's happening to my X. It sounds like a knock or a ping, but again only under heavier acceleration (from a complete stop or up a hill). Otherwise, it's pretty smooth. And it's too damn new to be engine problems (I hope!)

I started to think that it could be an exhaust leak and read somewhere how to test for one. Haven't had a chance yet, but you pretty much take a shop-vac, set it to blow (huh huh... he said blow), use a healthy amount of duct tape to seal it to the tailpipe and then listen/feel for leaks at every joint. Oh yeah- gotta do this while the exhaust system is cold... duh!

Glad to hear your problem is fixed!

PS- Once I get this noise taken care of, the airbox is going to get cut!

No, mine did it anytime I tapped the gas pedal. It probably did it at idle because it was idleing hella rough, but I couldn't hear it. Yours sounds like the ping explorers are prone to have. But I would check for an exhaust leak, maybe not as severe as mine was. Anyway, good luck finding your problem.

Beavis, I'm thinking those tubes might have been part of your EGR system. Just a guess though.
