Ive done a lot of research on different threads here on the forum. working up to attempting the first lift job on my RWD 98 XLT. i'm planning on ordering some new Superlift leafs for the rear to replace the sagging stock leaf packs. and some of the Warrior leaf shackles just in case the new springs dont quite bring her up enough to make up for any carried load. and given she's RWD, I'm figuring i can tighten up the torsion bars to level the front out. since there's no CV joints to lock up. my only concern (also the only thing i havent seen come up on any of the threads ive found here) is a brief phone call i had to a local off-road shop where the rep i spoke to mentioned that the rear pinion would become an issue if i raised the suspension in the rear. just wanted to collect some opinions from individuals who arent so concerned about selling things.

Depending on how much you lift it, your pinion angle may be off. The angle between the driveshaft and pinion should be equal, but opposite, to that of the transmission to driveshaft. Once you get more than a couple degrees difference, the driveshaft will vibrate.

You can check with an angle finder from the hardware store for about $10.

I found my pinion angle to be off even though my truck is stock height. I think a previous rear-end collision caused it. A couple 2 degree pinion wedges installed between the axle and leaf spring made the angle much better.
