There are buttons on the overhead. It's an electric shift. That would've been fun in Cle Elum :D

Push button 4x4, and an auto tranny :p looks like fun lol

I would offer $400 with the bad trans...its a good starting point! the 89-90 models (pictured here) make the 4.0L conversion about 100 times easier.......

Take a look at the rockers (dog legs) from behind look for rust.
then open the hatch and look below the tail lights for rust.
These are the first two spots to start rusting on a BII, so if its surface or none you got yourself a winner!

Nice truck! i will never like that 89-90 front end, but I am a bit biast and its still a BII

Now keep in mind there is not much of this BII you will likely keep in the end, except for the body and frame.. they do need alot of work, but the end result is *****in and they can be build on the cheap (buy a wrecked Ex, park next to it, swap all drivetrain, rear end, and seats)

looks like fun/a good start

yeah, there's really no such thing as a strong 2.9 liter...uckk. the 4.0 is a much better power plant. 600 sounds like a deal, but i bet it's got a dana 28 in the front and the wimpier 8.8 axle.

it will have a dana 28 TTB, 7.5" rear axle
2.9L EFI with the early A4LD mated to a BW 1350 touch drive transfer case...

Ah the good old days!

this sucker looks to be missing the d side door glass.
FYI I am still using my original 1988 e shift t case shift motor, its just been "rebuilt" once, 290K miles, works perfectly.
However last time I went wheeling I pushed on my overhead 4x4 "touch drive" push botton and the plastic its mounted on broke.......I think in 89-90 however they were mounted on the dash just like a 91-94 Ex. Thank goodness I picked up a complete spare overhead thingy in the junk yard about 5 years ago...

there are 3 things I personally dont like about the 89-90 models of the BII:
the front clip
the dash
lack of wing windows.

things I do like about the 89-90 models:
later models had a 2.9L with MAS (especially CA versions)
tthe 89-90 models have VERY similar wiring to the 91-94 Explorer/Ranger 4.0L
The door panels are 10x better then the 84-88 version and have speakers in them
Some of them had a 8.8 rear axle (rare)
You can add wing windows :)
