I was waxing the X a few minutes ago with a buffer, and I guess I got too close to the pinstriping because there a slice of it missing now. It didnt take a whole piece out, but a slash that almost cut the strip in two. Can a Ford dealership replace the strip? Its just a short piece on the drivers door. If they can, any idea how much it would cost? I almost cried when I saw what happened :( And I also had a few choice words too ;) If Ford cant replace it, who could? Thanks alot,

Grant

You might want to try a custom striping type shop and see if they can match it for you.

Good luck....

Thanks for the ideas guys.

Gimp, I emailed FPN, I'll let you know what they come up with. I also found the number for the Ford dealer we take the X to, so maybe they can install it, I just hope they dont charge me alot for such a small job.

Yeah I have that sticker pinstriping stuff on my 98 and its missing a piece on the passenger side door. Gimp you said that you have to buy the thing for both sides and the liftgate. On mine there is no pinstripe on the liftgate is there supposed to be?

You have to buy a whole new set of stripes for one side. Contact a body shop for installation. You might even be able to turn it into your insurance as comprehensive (if you have that coverage) and get the stripes free depending on your deductible. I had a door repainted on mine about a year ago and they had to order a whole new set of stripes for the left side, wasnt cheap if I remember correctly, but it worked out because they needed to blend into the rear quarter and the front passenger's door.

What kind of buffer were you using Grant?

Stephen- I was using one of those kind that have the round dealy that spins with the fluffy pad on one side of it, I guess its one of them orbital ones. Is that what you mean? After it sliced that stripe I just got a rag and started taking the wax off, I didnt wanna chance it anymore.

I dont see how an orbital buffer would be able to do that...

Ok, on the 98s there is no pinstripe on the rear gate except on the Limiteds where it slightly folds into the rear lamps.

I dont either Stephen. It also seems to work hell on some of the plastic trim, like if if brushes up against it it takes the finish off and leaves these hair type strands on it. I dont think I'm going to use it anymore. I didnt know it had messed with the stripe until I pulled it back. Now when I dont look at it, it doesnt look that bad, not that noticeable really, I guess I was in shock at first, LOL. My main worry is it peeling back and looking crappy.

I got one of those man-made synthetic chamois that dont do a realg ood job of takin the water off (got a Cali. blade for that) and its got the texture of a bathtowel, but its really soft, and it takes the wax off really good and easy, looks nice. You can use those man-made ones for about anything.

Never heard of such a thing Stephen, I bet its convenient and beats applying by hand. Where can I get one at?
