A few hours ago I was driving and heard a weird sound. I can't exactly describe it but my first thought was that it was being caused by my less than spectacular usb bluetooth transmitter. I turned the sound level down & still heard it. So then I unplugged the transmitter & still heard it. Next step was turning the radio off and again I still heard the sound. I got to my destination and an hour later when it was time to drive the sound now turned to static with the radio on or off. 5 months ago I installed my center console so I have removed the radio once. Checking to see if anyone has experienced this relative to PIUs or if I should treat it like a random issue that any car can have.

Just noticed the staric begins after 40mph

It likely isn't static but without hearing it, it's difficult to say. Just wondering if it could be a buzzing type noise from the cowl. Members have posted about that.

Thanks for your input. It sounds just like static on an empty radio station, not a buzzing sound. My Google search seemed like it could be interference, a loose ground, worn parts or something more serious related to the alternator. Being that wiring is fooled around so much with PIUs I was hoping that it was something common/easily fixable. It's been 100°F+ & raining daily here in South La so it's difficult to find time right now to go outside and research the issue. I drive a lot for work so luckily the static noise isn't too loud, but it's enough to be irritating.

Even though the radio is OFF, is the static noise coming from the speakers?

Sorry, when you mentioned cowl I immediately thought under the engine. But yes, it appears that's the issue! It's all cracked, loose & weathered. I tested it out by applying some black gorilla glue tape and at highway speeds I'm not hearing the static like noise anymore! Next step is to search through the forum to see about replacing it.

Yes, it looks right. Thank you so much, I appreciate that. I forgot to add the pictures of mine. It's pretty weathered.
