2017 Ford Explorer PIU
So I’m new to owning a 2017 PIU. Today it did not want to come out of park. I’m assuming that the part in the picture is the shifter interlock solenoid?
Because when I pull the plunger down the shifter resets and I can go into gear. My problem is I can’t find a replacement. Any help is appreciated

Would this part prevent me from switching into drive ? The break lights do come on when pressed.
Welcome to the Forum.
The Brake Shift Interlock when activated allows the transmission to be taken out of Park. I'm guessing you should be able to put the transmission into gear once that has been done, but it's only a guess. t9087 may have a better understanding of the feature.
If ordering the part, Levittown Ford is a forum vendor and offers members a 50% discount on shipping.

I have seen two problems that cause this to not work.

BCM not sending the signal to the shift interlock, and I’ve also had the shift interlock fail itself. Most of the time it’s been the shift interlock that has failed.

The little pin releasing is what allows you to move the shifter. The parts diagram shows it as one assembly. On the Ford trucks, you can buy just the interlock Itself. In the PIUs we get the part number above.

On my 2015, the switch (marked Diagnostic) is located under ther steering column. It is close enough to the steering wheel that I can climb in, sit in a normal driving position, and as I reach for the column shift with my right hand I can easily reach this switch with my left. All it takes is very slight pressure on the switch to release the column shift.
