2010 Ford explorer wont shift out of park. This happened before a few yrs ago and the shift interlock module was bad. I'm thinking the module is bad because it's Dorman and usually doesn't last long.

I'm moving the shift solenoid lever to by pass it so I can move the lever into gear. As I'm doing this the shifter won't move into gear. Does this sound like a shifter assembly problem? I should be able to bypass it but the shifter is still stuck in park. Any ideas?

How are you "bypassing" the solenoid? If the 2010 is similar to earlier models, the locking mechanism is a mechanical pawl pushed into a notch on the shifter by a spring within a solenoid. Energizing the solenoid by depressing the brake pedal causes it to pull the pawl out of engagement, and the shifter is thus unlocked. The mechanism may be gummed up and unable to move, of the solenoid may be inoperable due to electrical problems: burned out coil, bad electrical connection.

There is a horizontal pin that the actuator pivots on to allow it to disengage the lock. Sometimes this gets bent or the plastic that it is seated in wallows out. Do you hear the actuator click when you step on the pedal?
