Ive been working trying to fix my 98 explorer transmission problem for half a year now, and Im starting to get really frustrated (and broke, haha)
It started with dropping out of 5th gear and lockup, doing about 3000 rpm in 50mph, got a new converter and valve body from ebay and installed, didnt help, then a loud bang came from the tranny, opened it, found the forward drum had gotten loose and smashed some parts, replaced it and the clutches, still didnt help, wont engange 5th until I let go of the throttle, touch it and it drops out, same with lockup. Opened the oil pan, found the part that holds the intermidiate band broken in the oil pan, replaced it, same. Replaced the ecm , same, it started to slip in R (after like 10 miles after the rebuild) opened the tranny again, the direct clutches where shot again.. replaced them, same, but this time R worked again. Tested the pressure, it was low in all gears. Replaced the oil pump, got over 300psi in R, great, got about 70-100 psi in N, but still low in D, BUT, if I hold the brake and rev it up to 3000rpm without letting the truck move, Drive pressure pops up to about 220psi, but during driving, not more than 100-150psi, even when I floor it..
Anybody got any ideas what could cause this? The valve body I put in was a updated one.
Any help is much appreciated, we just got our second child, and my truck only has room for 3 people, so Im in desperatly need of the explorer:)
Thanks
Torbjorn

You're way in over my head on this one, but I'll give you a bump and wish you good luck and congrats on your second child.

Thanks:) could there be an internal leak since it wont do enough pressure while driving but only when I hold the brake so the truck wont move? I have sensor in front thats called overdrive speed sensor, its not in use, so I sealed it with gasket stuff and a sheet metal plate, when I did get the pressure high enough by holding the brake it blew that seal, I have put in a sensor now so it doesnt leak, but should there be pressure behind that sensor?
