Please Help , Explorer Lift And Gears

Hey guys up until now Ive been very excited about entering the world of lifted explorers. I found nothing wrong and it was all smooth sailing and i was almost ready to buy the 4" suspension and 3" body with BF 35s
I told someone i had a 97 XLT V6 SOHC and they said with the setup its gonna be extrmemly sluggish. And since i live in PA and theres TONS of snow they said i would probally blow that trans with the gears i have. I would love to have it fun to drive not slow, and it needs to go through snow. Anyone know what gears i have or how to find out???? If all this is true its pretty depressing and i might not lift my X anymore. I heard for 4.10 gears it could be 1,000 for labor. :fire: After all this thought put into my X this is a pretty big road block

well you could have 410 gears from teh factory, but for 35" tires you will msot likely want to go with 456 gears....look on the drivers door jamb and find the axle code...then do a search on here and find the axle code chart and see what you have...and yea, that price to regear is about right.

i just ask my parents who bought it in 97 new and they said they got the towing package for it......doesnt this mean it probally has 4.10?

Call several places and see who's not so busy. I had my 4.10's installed for $350.00 with a guarantee at a tranny shop(I did refer some people his way). Yes, front and rear. Good luck.

Just to make you feel better if you do have 4.10's

I have a 98 SOHC V6, 35" tires and my truck came with 4.10's. It's not slow by any means. It's not fast- but it'll move.

And i live in central NJ.. so when it snows im all about wheelin!

And if you need gears.. here's an idea..

that 4" suspension is going to run what, $1500? Instead, do the 3" Body lift, 2" TT/Shackle and for $360 total get some perry's fenders. You'll run 35's fine.

I have 2" TT/Shackles, 2" Body lift, perrys and the 35's look great and i have a lower center of gravity. However i dont mind having black fenders, you can always get them painted later when the money's right.

But anyways, if you do it that way, you'll save about $1000 and you can have those gears put in

yea man, 35's will fit fine. Look at my pics.

I have 2" BL and 2" TT with perrys.

You'll have 3" BL.. so you'll have basically the same set-up but an extra 1" of clearance.

Basically, im running 35's on 4" lift

If I had researched more, I would have gone w/ 3" BL + Shackles/spacers= 4.5" total lift=more than I have right now= lots cheaper=happier person

ahhh just rememberd something else, right now i have 3.55 gears should i go 4.10 or 4.56 i would like to have some real good acceleration. And maybe with alot of performance mods a burnout ...... does the 4.56 cost alot more?

No Spacers
My rims are 15x10 with 3.75" Backspacing

Hood:
Lund Hood Scoops (medium Size)

Gears:
I like the 4.10's. It's quick with acceleration and does great on the highway. with 4.56 you may be running high rpm's on the highway when you go over 50.

Burnouts:
I wouldnt plan on doing burnouts and stuff with 35's. Our trucks are quick and fun, but our engine and tranny and transfer case can't really handle that.

wow , high rpms over 50?? if thats true I'll definitly go with the 4.10s is the any gear alittle over that that i can use and still go 65mph, because people said its a bit sluggish with 4.10s. Thanx for the hood info and all the help. Also, i was just kidding about bournouts. Ive seens people wreck there trannies and stuff in 2 seconds doing them. And so should i get my rims in 15x10? I was thinking about mickey thompson but not sure if they would look good on a black X

I'm going to pop in here on this one... I'm running 4.56's with 33's on my X. At 80 I'm running at three grand on the expressway. It's not bad I guess. The major reason that I went with those gears was for the extra towing capacity for when I pull my Jeep around. The OHV that I have lacks the power that you SOHC owners have. 4.10's should be fine like Sk1er said!

thanx, so i guess I'll do 4.10's Can anyone help me find a 3" body lift site for my 97X for some reason i cant find it anywhere even though everyone has them. I found the shackles and torsion twist info and parts though.
