i have not it made this noise before and i was thinking ball bearings so i changed the hub assemblys and it stopped and now its back ...

sounds like it could be the cv joints most likely if you have alot of milage on them. when you replaced your bearings you may have moved them in a way to pack grease in areas to make the noise stop. now that they seated its back.

thanks for your reply. if that is the case is there any way to confirm that is the issue? is there a quick fix? can i just regrease them?

How many miles/km are on them. Normally the cv joint are none serviceable and are greased at the factory. if the CV Boots are cracked or even have a broken band dirt/water can get in and cause them to wear of fail. Im not sure of a better way to check them with out actually taking them out. I was recently at Standard auto wreckers. they had an all you can carry out in one trip for 50.00 bucks. I managed to find an explorer with 114,000 KM so i removed the front and rear axle along with the cv joints. they seem to have as much play as my current explorer that has over 450,000 Km
