This is my first Explorer. Its a '95 4X4 and the starter went out (I think), so I attempted to remove it. Got the bolts out (a real challenge to get the top one) and the cables disconnected, but there is not enough space for the darn thing to move between the oil pan and the front diff. It won't move up, and there doesn't seem to be any space to move it through the wheel well. I find it hard to believe that Ford designed this to need to jack the motor or remove the front diff to replace the starter. I am a reasonable mechanic with average skills and have replaced a number of starters. I have never come across a situation like this on an AMERICAN car.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, as I am riding a bicycle to work until this issue is resolved...

Thanks!
