Ok, to start off, my 4wd has been broken for some time now, due to a loud pop heard when i was going to back up a hill i had just come down. I still have 2wd and 2 wheel low gear (so my shift motor is working). I figured right away it was my hubs. I go on ebay and buy a brand new set of Warn locking hubs, spindle nuts, and spindle nut socket, and installed them to specs. After doing some testing around back, to my dismay that didnt solve the problem. I thought of several possibilities to myself afterwards and did a little testing. What i did was unlock the hubs and got underneath, turned the front driveshaft by hand. Both axle shafts spun. I would lock either side, and continuously turn the driveshaft, the free side would turn (as it should), the locked side would stay locked, and i didnt feel any clunking, grinding, or "hard spots". So i figured i busted the chain inside the transfer case. Ok, seeing winter's coming up, and feeling the urge to go mudding i went on ebay and bought a lightly used chain for 20 bucks. So today, as i'm picking at getting the T case down, i decided to do a little more testing. With my rear driveshaft disconnected and the engine off (ignition on) i pushed the 4WD button and put it in neutral, got underneath, turned the front driveshaft, to see that my rear output was turning too...... So i locked the hubs and tried to turn it, they were locked in either way as far as i could turn the driveshaft...
Lastly i fired up then engine, held on the brake, and put it between reverse and drive several times. On drive the speedo would register 15 mph on idle, and i could hear the front end turning(a quiet whine) . Nobody's available to do this for me so i can get out and see what is turning and what isn't though....
I'm completely lost on what the problem is.....can somebody help get a fellow explorer guy back on track PLEASE?!?
