yeah you can. i havent done it but i went to crutchfield and used your model and they listed those speakers.

hey

ya i went to crutchfield aldo but they talk about selling adapters to put other speakers in. and the biggest they got is like 5 1/4. so i donno if its a for sure thing if u can put 6 1/2 in there.

the adapters are just to bolt the new speakers to, since your putting a round speaker in a oval whole. it will work.

alright thanks so 6 1/2 inch speakers will fit in a 6x8 area.

I don't think they will fit without doing a little "fitting" to the surrounding metal. 6 1/2" is bigger than 6"

yeah, like i said i havent done it. but crutchfield is really good and if you buy from them they will send the adapters and instructions.

ok maybe im wrong and didnt read the fine print. but i wouldnt think it be hard to make them work with the adapters. thanks for jumping in and helping robb.

so would i even need the adapters if all i gotta do id cut away some metal.

id say yeah because the adapter will probablyscrew to the straight sides of the oval hole. where if u didnt use them there wouldnt be anywhere to screw the round speakers to on the rounded sides of the original hole. hopefully someone who has done it will jump in soon.

hey

alright thank u so far. still kinda confused tho.

cut out a piece of MDF that is roughly 6.5 x 8 with a hole in the center for your 6 1/2. (the hole will be more like 6" +/-)

the 3/4" thickness of the MDF will create the offset needed for the speaker to fit in the 6x8 metal hole.

either use self tapping screws to attach the MDF to the door, or use the original ford holes and hardware from the factory speakers/spacers

use some sound deadening over all of it, then mount the speaker.

thank you all for your help.

Just so you guys know, I put 6 1/2's in my front doors with no, I repeat NO cutting, or any type of adapters. I have an '01 Sport, so I don't know all the nuances of the different years, but it's been done.

hey

thats kool. im thinking about doing the same. puting 6 1/2 in the front and also in the back.

I have 6.5's in my front doors. There is no metal to cut in a second gen. The speakers sit in a plastic basket. I'd do the mdf adapter idea. I have mine frankenstiened in with differnt bolt thanm factory, but it depends on the hole placement if this is possible. I'm going to build adapters this week. It will sound a lot better if the speaker is flush mounted, and the speakers back frequencies are seperated.

yea I have a nice adapter for a 6.5" speaker into my 6x8 hole. Still plenty of top mount depth if you're worried, I got a speaker with a tweeter that extrudes about an inch from the top of the woofer and I was worried if it all would fit, but sure enough, it did. Most car audio places will build the baffles for you for like $40 if you cant or dont want to. I spent $20+ trying to get my own right, then took it to the pro's and they got it right on the first shot. Those *******s.
