Please Help with 5r55s transmission

What does a reman tranny run for this explorer?

Found this. Is it a good deal?

I would go with the ETE reman transmission from RockAuto for <$1600. It includes the torque converter and has a great warranty. If you are going through the trouble of dropping one of these transmission that is still original to the vehicle, I would strongly encourage swapping in a quality re-manufactured unit that has had all of the weaknesses addressed. Otherwise it is just a matter of time before it needs done anyway.

Thanks i'll look into that.

I know the "best and most correct" thing to do is a total rebuild, however is it feasible to just replace the pump and torque converter. I had no metal in the valve body and the bands and inside of the transmission looked clean, uniform grey/silver color. Not trying to be cheap but I am broke as hell at the moment.

I think it is a 5r55s but have seen where w's were used until 2005

Mine 2004 xlt 4.0 SOHC v6. I can provide vin if needed.

I cant tell you if its a good deal or not, but I did find this interesting

"Buyer is required to swap a GOOD core for this trans otherwise there will be a $250.00-$750.00 core charge in addition to the above price. Above Price is valid as long as there is no hard part damage to the transmission."

There will be damage inside the core.

You cant tell between S and W trannys from the outside of the transmission but I am sure there is a chart for the door sticker or vin that will tell, I don't have it, I never really need to know because I always take them apart.

I think they can be swapped without issue in the earlier vehicles but somewhere around 04 the computers are more sensitive and they may throw a gear ratio code.

You could just swap out the pump and converter if all else is clean and in good shape.

Ok so I dropped my transmission tonight and my fluid pump gear is busted in half. I can not see any metal that would have caused this but who knows.

Anyways I can't seem to find a place I can buy a complete pump.

Also to my surprise I do not have a 2004 original transmission, I have a rebuilt 2002 transmission.

Anyone know where I can get a complete pump and what type converter do I need.

This is a street vehicle with occasional dirt / mud roads. No heavy 4 wheeling.

Any help ASAP would be great.

Also the shaft that is removable, the splines seem to be damaged but I don't know what they should look like. I assume they should be nice and triangular. Mine seem to be rough and flat on top.

Thanks

Photos would be better

We need to see the spline on the shaft so it would be nice for photos if possible

5r55w fluid pump needed

I am in need of a pump assembly for a 2002 and up 5r55w. Looking for one in the Atlanta Ga and north area. I can order one and have shipped but it is going to be a while.

Anyone have a good pump or know where to buy a good or reman pump for pickup or quick delivery.

Also need new gasket for installing the pump.

I am going to go ahead and order in a couple hours if no response.

Thank you

So as you can see above I went from a flashing OD light, to finding a damaged spot on the separator gasket. Replaced separator gasket and fluid, to broke pump.

Now I have installed re-manufactured. Pump, another new filter, new fluid and an inline filter coming from the radiator/trans cooler back to transmission.

Truck is now going down the road on its own. Seems to shift OK. NO OD light flashing, HOWEVER--

I now have a whine / growl noise at shifts. This most of the times happens on medium to hard accelerations. No noticeable noise at idle.

Don't want to put words in ones mouths but could this be something to do with the in line filter? Or what do you think? Sounds a little like pump cavitation but I'm not sure.

The filter is a inline transmission filter. Will have to get the make but it is for transmission fluid and is to some degree a magnetic type filter.

It is a raybestos powertrain magnetic inline filter and Looks pretty much like this one.
