I am hoping someone can offer me some suggestions to my current situation. I bought a new 2001 Explorer XLT 4x4 about 6 weeks ago. I have purchased a new Ford every two years. This is my first Explorer and to say the least, I am highly disappointed. There are many things wrong with it already. Here is a list:

1. A 1' run in the paint on the Rear Hatch.

2. Cracks in both rain gutters that run the length of the truck.

3. The black portion of the metal in between the driver and rear door needs repainted. The paint came off when I waxed them.

4. Hole in back leather seat.

5. Hole in the door panel.

6. Molding on rear hatch coming off.

7. Sterring wheel is not centered and sits off to the side.

I really do not want to own this Explorer. In order to fix the majority of these problems the truck will need to be painted by a Ford Body Shop which I am not real happy about. What should I do?

Thanks,

Frank T. Lee

You sure you didn't get one that was wrecked and rebuilt??? Most of the 2001 Explorers were gone off of the lots by February 'cause of the new ones coming out. You might want to do a vin search to check the title history, even if it came 'new' from the dealer.

Just curious, if the vehicle had all these problems, why did you buy it??

You say you buy a new ford every 2 years. Sounds like you are leasing to me?? Warranty on this thing?? Can't you take it back and demand a different explorer due to all the things that are wrong or demand a new lease until they fix all the wrong things?

Ford by no means is perfect but the list you gave just doesn't sound like a new ford vehicle.

JDraper,

Are you talking about a CarFax report? To answer your question as to why I bought it. I have had so many Ford's in the past that I was not concerned with looking it over real good. I didn't even test drive it. My FAULT totally...

glc8937,

I do not lease my vehicles. If this one was a lease, I would not worry about it. Just drive it and turn it in but, it is not a lease.

wow that seems like a lot of stuff thats wrong with that new of a vehicle. when i bought my 96 i didnt have nearly that many problems. so basically it is all cosmetic items that are messed up? no engine or drivetrain?

jas84,

Yes, mainly cosmetic but, I really do not want the factory paint messed with. In order to fix the roof, they need to paint the whole roof.

Question, what about a Ford BuyBack?

Even though I haven't figured out my butt numbing vibration problems, I love my explorer.
In 98 the wife and I bought a new Expadition. The first six months, the truck was in the shop more than when it was on the road. For some of the same related problems. Paint, speakers, E-brake cable Airconditioning smelled like pee, more speakers( they just kept falling off the doors), coil pack, bumpers rusting I payed 34,000 for the truck (I leased, thank God!). When the lease was up I dumped it. It had 36,000 miles and was ready for the second set of ball joints. The truck was replaced by a little tiny alaro, witch after the inital shock of going from a house on wheels to the bathroom on wheels, has been a great little tiny car. With absolutly no (and I mean, no) problems.
With that said, I'm going to steel someones quote:
The bitterness of poor quality, remains long after the sweatness of a good deal.
