Thank God the trooper wasn't in the ex at the time. I think the ex is designed to handle rear collisions up to 65mph [or something like that].

The Ford Interceptor Utility and Sedan are the only Police vehicles with the 70MPH rear crash rating.

Dodge and GM cant make that claim.

How does that relate to the standard vehicles? How much additional reinforcements are added to the PI?

For being rear-ended at highway speed, the compartment held up quite well.

This is the extra brace that comes in the Interceptor Utility for extra rigidity and rear crash integrity. Im not sure if the SPORT gets this too as its a lot harder to get underneath the third row seats in the SPORT.

Interestingly enough, just recently Ford published a notice to all Law Enforcement agency's stating the 70MPH rear crash rating was only valid when the spare tire is left in the rear storage well. If it's removed then they don't provide that rating.

Thanks Sgt! As Qwik said, not there in the Sport.

That makes sense about the tire. In my 911 the spare is part of the crash structure to the front of the car. While some want to remove it for weight savings in a DE, they are quickly told to put it back in.
