92 Ranger XLT 4X4
Ok guys... here's the deal. Just bought mt first truck. I am 15 turning 16 in july. 1992 Ranger 4x4 4.0 litre. My dad and I are going to fix it up. Well we were told it had a bad engine. Runs about like a 4 cyl. We put new plugs and wires in it. We did a compression check...135,130,140, 130......55...60..oops
Used Engine time ?? We had a friend with a 3.8 windstar ran the same, broken valve spring !! Any one had a compression problem ? If so, what was the cure. Thanks Ranger Kid still happy and still ready go ford Tough !!!

see if there are any leaks around the rear of the engine.

if the the 55/60 cylinders are on the same side of the block, and are next to each other, there is a good chance its a cracked head/gasket. If your lucky, thats all it is.. a pair of heads (at most) with a gasket set and your on the road for < $1k. While you have the heads off you can clean off all the carbon from the tops of the pistons.
