Posted my question in the new members forum last week,Sorry,I have now read rules and instructions. My AWD was popping in hard turns and under acceleration.I changed T/C fluid,it was very low and burnt.Removed cv joints, they seem to be OK.Still popping.Removed front drive shaft and the noise is gone.Adjusted parking brake to make sure it would hold. Now it turns and rolls easier, the whine that I was hearing is gone. The u joints in the drive shaft seam OK.I thought it might be in the transfer case. And wonder if the viscous coupling got over heated when the fluid was low.I read somewhere that the fluid in the coupling can thicken when run to hot.Oh and I can park on a hill in park and it wont roll. Thanks guys for all the help so far,I wish I could get my money back for the Haynes manual I bought,It sucks, and there is more knowledge in this forum than in any book you will ever buy.

If the sound goes away when the front driveshaft is out, then its probably the front driveshaft's CV. In the pic below, the CV is the larger end of the driveshaft:

Yea, sounds like the drive shaft to me. You can't really rebuilt those yourself. I've got them if you need one but sounds like you've got the same problem as the rest of the world.

I hope that is all it is,My shaft has one u joint in front and two in back at T/C.The one in front feels a little rough but the bearings have grease on them.It sure wont hurt to buy a u joint since it needs one anyway opposed to pulling something out that I don't need too. It is not popping any more and I don't think it is doing any more damage.Thanks.
