when i start my x first thing in the morning the engine misses on 1 cylinder, until right after it builds oil pressure, and it also misses under load usually in fourth gear going uphill. and it also smokes first thing in the morning as well. but its not oil.

1. does this sound like a bad injector?

2. is there a common problem with older explorers and their injectors?

keep in mind i do not baby this truck. i have about 1000lbs of tools in the back at all times, and it has 230,000 miles.

thanks in advance guys.

I didn't start the engine all day yesterday, and when I started it this morning it smoked for 10 mins. Smeeled like it was running rich or dumping fuel.

Any ideas?

What is your feul pressure? Might be a bad fuel pressure regulator (since it acts up at startup or under load) There is a test chart on here somwhere to see what the pressure should be and what it is suppose to change to under certain conditions.

I replaced all 6 injectors from a slightly used 94 junkyard ex, and it ran well for about 30 mins until I got on the highway and it started missing and spark knocking. Now it seems like it runs on 4, 5 or 6 cylinders randomly. And I cleaned everything, The intake manifold, upper and lower plenum and all 6 injectors. I'm getting to the point where I'm am going to have to sell my baby. But I just can't afford it anymore unless someone has a definate answer, I'm just gonna buy a powerstroke or a cummins truck.

Dude, if you can't afford to fix your Ex, good luck fixing a diesel... check out what an injector swap on a Cummins of Powerstroke is worth... Unless you're planning to buy a new one, the repair bills get STEEP in a hurry.

You can't just ask for a definitive answer. Troubleshooting is about checking, testing, replacing, and then doing it all over again until you've got the problem solved.

Is the truck throwing any codes? Have you checked the fuel pressure?

i have no way to check codes and the light has never came on. the only thing i can think of would be the fuel pump or coil pack. you're right i cant just ask for an answer. im usually pretty good at diagnosing problems but this explorer seems to have its own set of rules. you know what i mean?

i went out and started her up this morning and it poured coolant through the exhaust. im pretty sure i have a blown head gasket.
