Hi: I've owned numerous Ford motor products from a sable, expedition, mark 8
and Taurus. The Taurus (98) I currently have is a piece of crap with only 100,000 miles and had a new heater core, engine and now a new transmission installed.
My question is: I have an opportunity to buy a 1994 and a 1995 Explorer for under $2,500. We are moving to Pa. and need 4x4's. I've always liked the explorer, but never had one, nor know anyone that has. They are both in good condition and have under 100,000 miles on them. What should I look out for in purchasing them? What should I expect from them in terms of reliability and problems? I know purchasing a used car is a crap shoot, but so is purchasing new. Thanks, Nate

Welcome To The Forum! Make sure the transmissions shift smooth and ask the history on them I'm guessing with under a 100k they're in good shape but would change the fluid and filter immediately after purchasing them and install an aux trans cooler. Sometimes with the 91-94 Ex's the t-case does not always shift to 4X4 when the button is pushed if it hasn't been used in a long time but can sometimes start working by tapping on the shift motor with a hammer while someone is pushing the button, they have a bushing that sometimes goes bad within the shift motor.
