Ok guys i cant figure it out. when i accelerate sometimes i hear a noise from the engine compartment. now im pretty sure my explorer is due for a tune up and i know my serpentine belt needs replacing. the noise is almost like a a knocking i dont know how else to describe it. have any of you ever had this problem?? do you think a tune up or new belt could fix it. i also know im 1000 miles over when my cousin said it needed an oil change but the oil level looks good and it doesnt appear to really need the change yet but im doing it anyways. any help would be much appretiated. Thanks

Anyone???? Anything at all?? Any ideas?? Im completely stumped.

every 4.0 i had was real bad on detonation under a heavy ignition load.. may be your problem. pull the plugs and take a look, ive had good luck running autolite platinums. make sure you put a good set of wires on too, no sense doin the work if you dont put on quality parts. just some ideas.

Thanks Ill check it out as soon as it stops raining.

On my '96 (recently traded for Ranger) I had to replace the (broken) belt tensioner twice, both times it sounded like more of a rattle than a knock, almost like a diesel truck. Check yours, on mine there was an obvious crack in the metal.

Ok Ill check that too. I just wish it would stop raining so I can start cleaning the rest of the engine bay and the inside.
