Hey all you Explorers from Sothern California it was suggested in another post that a Sothern California Explorer Club be formed. If you are interested or have any input on it leave a message and we will see where this goes. Maybe some posible local trips this summer.:bounce:

Where in So Cal are any kinda not too serious off road trails? im not talking illegal either. im down here in SD myself. =)

I'm interested in maybe organizing a southern cali explorer club. I am brand new to this site and am still learning about the potential of my explorer. I own a 2000 explorer sport automatic 4.0 sohc I have made a few mods but am really looking to do some serious changes. I wouldn't mind meeting with some people that are as into there explorers as me:cool:

most of the good trails around this area are up in the big bear area and has trails of all levels. There are all sorts of legal trails and offroading areas around and even a few in the SD area so we will see how many people are interested and go from there

I ran across a guy today with a pretty nice 91 work in progress, (aren't we all) he lives up near my area and seemed pretty interested in the idea of getting some runs together, judging from the condition of his body (some good rock rash) he hasn't had any problem finding trails to play on, but who knows how legal they are. We swapped numbers and I dropped the URL for this site hopefully he will drop by.

SC Offroad Trails

OffRoadin, Huidaddy, et al,

There are still hundreds of Legal OR trails and areas in SoCAl. If you expand your definition of SoCAl to include SLO, KERN, etc. Counties. There are the National Forests: Angeles, Cleveland, Los Padres, and San Bernadino. There are the National Parks: Death Valley, & Joshua Tree. There are the State Parks: Anza-Borrego, Then there's the State OH Veh Rec Areas: Hungry Valley, Ocotillo Wells, Wildomar., The Great deserts (Mostly BLM Land): Mojave, Coloradoan Essex, etc. The Dunes areas, Pismo, Glamis, Kelso, etc. And Then there's always the infamous "TruckHaven": that Serious Explorations does twice a year, in the Salton Sea Area. See pics and trip reports here on the site

I suggest you pick up a copy of Harry "Silver Coyote" Lewellyn's "Backroad Trips and Tips", Aka: "The Glovebox Guide to Unpaved S. CA." It has 101 OR trails with maps Descriptions and directions, land manager contacts, rules, restrictions, etc. A few of the areas have been closed since the book was written, thanks to some thoughtless Off Roaders who don't Tread Lightly, or respect the ecology, but most are still open. The books are availble at many Offroad shops, or directly by sending to Harry Lewellyn, 2234 Catherine Pl. Costa Mesa CA 92627-1815. I think they're under $20. His e-mail is:
SilverCoyote@smac.net, (949)645-7733.

BTW, I will be leading a Trip in the Big Bear area known as the Big Bear Bash, or "Crawlin Crab Flats" July 21 & 22. Contact me or Harry about it if your interested (there is a guide fee).

Bottom Line: there are lots of places in So CA to legally wheel.

Info on Trip

Hey Ray can you give us a little more info on the Big Bear trip like trail difficulty and cost.:D

Re: Info on Trip

big bear trips?

Ray,
Are you taking over for Big Red?
Roadkill

Any one else interested!:D

Big Bear

Roadkill,

Well, I may be taking some of Don's (Big Red) trips, but not all. Things are kinda up in the air now. Harry contacted me 'cause Red is spending a lot more time in work right now, and worse yet, he recently had his truck stolen!

I need to reply to Offfrodin about the cost, but I'm not sure. Harry (Silver Coyote) handles that end, and I'll try to contact him tomorrow.

Ok thanks Ray!

Well it looks like there are about 6-7 of us who are interested and all we need to do now is figure a time to meet and and a place. Any suggestions?:D

All meetings should be held on the trail! :)

And I'm in.

Ray, if you need a tailgun, let me know.

deffinatly on the trail!!!!

Ok, so who's gonna suggest a time and place?

suggestion:
I'd be glad to 'host' a run. There are a few trails locally that are pretty difficult for a stock truck, that we could spend a day on. And I've got a pool and BBQ for some post-run fun. However I don't know how much it'd be worth the 3 hour drive for the San Diego guys.

Sounds good also I think for a deffinate meeting would be the trip that Ray H. was talking about. I talked to a guy at work today who grew up there and he said its a pretty good trail. But that is not untill june so if any one wants to throw out some possible dates of trips we can figure out a date and then a place and give it a go.
