recently when i start my x it will not start on the first try the second one it will. this usually only happens when it has been parked for over 6 hours so it usually happens in the morning or after my 8 hour work shift. im not sure if its the starter, is there a sure way to tell before i go and buy a new starter?

It won't turn over or it turns over and won't start?

it will turn over and wont start

my x was doing the same thing for a while, i cleaned my battery terminals and got a new battery, the starter hasn't gone yet, but i dont know if its the same situation, but i would give that a shot first, its way cheaper than a new starter

yeah i will try that my terminals are actually dirty

If the engine is turning over on the first try, but not starting, i highly doubt the problem is your starter. Ill leave it to other people solve the problem further, however.

next time, after it sits for awhile, get in it and turn the key to the on possition (do not start it). Do this three times. See if this starts it right up. If so - you need a fuel pump
