Hi guys,

2014 Exp Sport with Sony system, touchscreen nav, 2500 miles on it.

Is it possible to add a factory sub and center speaker in the dash at this point or am I out of luck?

If you have the 12 speaker Sony system I think you already have both the sub and center speaker.

Wow, the sticker shows the 12 speaker system, but I swear I cannot hear the sub or center speaker at all. I've looked in the rear and I can't tell if there is a sub there or not...When the system is on there is no movement back there...

I have same issue with the sub. WAY underpowered and no thump. Apparently it is there for the music to sound normal as the speakers in the doors and such have almost no bass.

I am going to be adding the Kicker hideaway sub to give some more bump to the truck...

I think that describes it pretty well. It is not going to rattle the neighbors windows but to my 67 year old ears it works well. If you are judging it based on satellite radio it is probably because satellite broadcast clip the sound at both ends to reduce the amount of data transmitted.
Try a better source like CD, MP3 or FM and it may sound better to you.

MP3 works best depending on how you have it encoded. That said the bump is still limited. Measurably better then Sat but no where near the level of other upgraded car systems.

While MUCH smaller the Focus we had with the upgraded audio had a sub you could feel. Even putting the hand over the sub and then the ex's sub playing the same source showed a noticeable difference between the quality of the subs.

So a small hideaway will be put into mine to aid. It will not be window shattering by any means but will greatly fill in the gap in the low end.

If you have a perforated panel in the back on the right hand side, you have the Sub... Also, if there was no center, you would just have a slightly depressed area above the MFT screen instead of the grill looking surface...

Thanks for the input guys, I do have the 'grill' looking piece above the touch screen and the grill in the rear so I guess I have the center & sub.

My wife has a 2012 Nissan Maxima, not a luxury car or anything but a decent ride. It has a center speaker but no sub. It is absolutely in another class than what is in the Explorer. Mids and highs are nice and clean and the bass has a good solid feel.

The Explorer is terrible in all of those aspects. I love the way it drives and looks and some of the creature comforts are nice. My mistake, should have paid more attention when I bought it. Every other "Premium" sound system I've heard was always decent, the Explorer is atrocious. Oh well, like I said, my mistake. Live and learn, gives me an excuse to buy some Focal separates :)
