Possible to connect Gen1 Explorers to Android gauge apps that usually use OBD2?

I had a thought earlier; if I convert the speedo cable to digital then it would actually be simple enough to add a small electric motor onto the old odometer as long as the speed of rotation was calculated correctly.

You could. I think 95+ explorers have an electric speedo. My 97 is electric.

Might be able to swap the needed parts from a 2nd gen to your 1st gen. Not sure if they backs will swap though. I know what the back of a 1st gen cluster looks like, but it's been awhile since I've removed the cluster from my 2nd gen.

So, what does IGN mean on this cluster? SIG and GND are pretty obvious and I'm assuming that any pulse width signal goes to the SIG pin right? Here's my cluster:

Is there any pinout and resistor value charts here on the forum? I've tried searches with no luck.

EDIT: One more question about something I'm seeing on the cluster; what does the '8CYL' trace do? Also, I'm considering keeping my current cluster but getting rid of the tach so would that harm anything if I did that?
