I was wondering if we could get a poll of peoples average gas milage. I have a 4.0 and can't seem to do better than 16MPG.

You have nothing to worry about, searching the forum should reveal that 15-16mpg is probably an average for a stock 4.0L explorer.

I don't feel so bad now. I have basically your drivetrain, 2000 motor, tranny, and AWD in my 94 Ranger. Running 3:73s, 31s and I seem to get an average of 17mpg. I'm surprised your summer mileage is lower than winter, mine's always lower in winter. I haven't put synthetic in the motor or tried any fuel savings tricks yet.

I average about 30 mpg.....................but I also use high dollar wax and high dollar oil, so I am above "normal" Explorers. ;)

'97 AWD V8, 16.5 mpg "city". Haven't done a highway trip in a while.

I have been tracking my mileage with Car Track. It keeps track of fuel economy, maintanence, etc. I have averaged 20.623 miles per gallon since I started tracking it (about the last 6 months). The highest was 28.506, the lowest was 16.744. Most of my mileage is highway, but do get in some city driving as well. So far it cost me $.10 per mile to drive my 2000 XLT V-6 SOHC.
