Im looking for a cheap winter car. Its a 99 Explorer 2 door that was recently traded in (I work at a dealership) and it would be around $1350. 4wd works, a/c works, "looks" Really clean. I drove it the only thing I noticed is that the hubs? were kinda noisy. It has 190K but again it "looks" like it was well taken care of. I just need it to last me through the winter, and to sell it in the summer. Any opinions?

There are no Locking hubs on the 99. If there is noise from the front it is CV joint noise, or bearings.

Which engine does it have?

that's a buncha miles. pretty cheap though. i say go for it, but be ready to spend some dough to get it tip top....

Yeah sorry I was typing fast, I think its the bearings. I don't mind the noise, I just need it to last me through the winter.

is the engine tapping?

did it pass inspection?

I would fix the bearings, it is a dangerous thing to let them go. Also at that price it would be worth fixing up.

My 96 Eddie has 195,000 miles and just had to do some work to it but runs great now. I have a few other things wrong with it but nothing pressing. Sounds like it would be worth the money, might even be able to make a few bucks on it if you get rid of it in the spring.
