Power door lock problem.

Hi All - can anyone tell me if they've experienced a 2000 Explorer door locks suddenly refusing to open by either the 'clicker' or keypad. Both the driver and front passenger doors require manual insertion of the key. This action causes a whirring noise to come from the vicinty of the keyhole. Back passenger doors have to be opened by pulling up the door lock.

To lock the doors requires inserting the key in each lock and again the whirring noise is activated.

Lots of posts.... a search will likely reveal your answer. IF all doors refuse to unlock, then it is likely an electrical issue going to the unlock relay (HINT... splice issue). IF only certain doors refuse to unlock, then it is possibly mechanical at those particular doors.

It's only the passenger door (2-door sport) and will not unlock by switch, fob, or key. It does make a noise like it's trying to unlock, but it doesn't. I read a few posts from folks having identical issues, but the post was either hijacked or was the hijacker, and they were never fully answered. It wouldn't be bad, but the wife is tired of jumping over my lap to fetch my newspaper from the news stand And don't even get me started on jumping over my lap to buy me a 6-pack

Pull the inside door panel off and see if the power lock motor is working. It really is a motor (and not a solenoid like some cars). It moves back and forth maybe an inch or more when the power locks are locked/unlocked with the switch or the fob. Sort of like a tiny rack-and-pinion steering. And it should move freely when pushed.

I had one that drove me nuts for 6 months - the gear inside lost teeth and jammed. The key in the door lock must give you more leverage to overcome the jammed teeth. Also, rocking the key back and forth will activate the power locks (which is the wirring noise you get).

$35 new at Rock auto (they call it a solenoid), but a nasty pain to get the new one back inside it's clip. As a matter of fact the whole 2nd gen door latch system stinks, but I'd rather be fixing that than the transmission

theres an easy fix for this with just a throttle return spring .do a search on here for door lock wont open.or thier might be a sticky for it .keep looking you will find it .theres pictures and everything.

Ok, so 8 hours later.....

A spring broke in the latch assembly and in the handle. Ford does not make it easy to repair and replace these two items. Wrangling the latch and actuator around the window slide rail was a PITA. But it's back together and working. $100.

my brother told me its my passenger and driver door lock motors that went bad. havent changed it yet just finished fixing my sunroof ill keep everyone posted as soon as get motors

Not sure about yours, but on the 98 it's an electronic actuator not a motor. If you hit the unlock button and you don't hear any movement or noise towards the bottom rear of the door then it's either the actuator, or as some have mentioned, a shorted out wire.
