Thanks for looking in - 02 Explorer - the power locks work fine but randomly begin to lock and unlock or at least sounds that way. It will make that noise five or six times....stop.....do it again multiple times...stop...etc --- I thought maybe power lock relay but can't find such a relay listing in manual? Any ideas - thanks in advance.

You may have a bad actuator! That happened to me on my 97 before it wrecked my battery one day. It went from doing it a few times and stopping. Or I would get out hit the lock on the key fob, walk away and hear it pop open! Then one day it went nuts and wouldn't stop going up and down continuously til my truck was DEAD!

Thanks - where is the actuator on a 02 Ex?

They are in the door in ALL vehicles. They are what actually pull and push the lock rod up and down! Take your door panel off and look down and towards the side of the door with the lock on it. It has wires hooked to it and will be connected to a rod that is connected to the lock cylinder. The first on eto go bad is usually the drivers door because of more frequent use.

Hey explorer junky I have a similar problem, Im hearing a clicking noise in the rear drivers side panel and it wont stop. Someone says it is the relay, could that be the case?

I fixed the problem by spraying the door handles and latches! The pdl was clicking like it was posessed - try spraying before checking for loose wires, replacing actuators etc.

ok thanks will do, this has been driving me crazy for a year, but since i really dont drive the truck i wasnt to concerned.

Hi,
Does anyone know the possible solutions to this problem?
Thank You

Started in to work and the locks cycled (lock) on their own once or twice, then 10 minutes later they are cycling non-stop. I had to pull the fuse just to save the battery and wear & tear. Does anyone know of a relay for the power door locks? Thanks for any thoughts you might have.

John

On the side of the luggage compartment has a lid (rear jack cover), open you will find a small box with the relays.
