power door locks keep engaging

1997 Explorer Sport. Twice in the last week my power door locks decided to start unlocking constantly by themselves. I caught it the first time and pulled fuse ,than checked system on my day off and couldn't find problem. Replaced fuse and than this morning I go to leave for work and the door locks are still engaging and battery is almost dead.Got me mystified....

i think that the 2nd gen ex's came with ghosts. haha, but i am not sure about why your door locks would engage unless it is shorting out somewhere. currently i am trying to figure out why my ex some nights will flash its interior lights on and off by itself for hours.

it sounds like a short probably in the door actuator itself

Just a thought, but when I had A 98 Ex and had a similar problem it turned out to be the remote control faub.The lock or unlock button was sticking down. Elbow

just curious if you fixed this problem and how. Or did it just go away on its own?? I'm having the same problem except my battery was so dead I had to buy a new one. I was unaware of the problem till I got the new battery, put it in and was driving down the road when I heard the locks trying to cycle through lock/unlock. Pulled the fuse and put it back in and now it all works fine but I'm terrified if I leave my battery hooked up it will kill it again. So I'm just curious what your outcome was!

I believe the fix is found in a splice in one of the wire tunnels just forward of the rear wheel arch tho i can't remeber which side

1996 power locks - mind of their own

i have a 1996 with power locks that cycle repeatedly to lock al the doors -
replaced drivers side door switch. Problem continues. Disconnected all actuators to prevent dead battery. Checked all visible wires in all doors and
hatch back...nothing unusual. Any ideas?

My 99 explorer started doing the same thing and i disassembled the drivers door looking for a wiring issue or fault. What i found was the mechanism that attached to the lever that is used to maually lock and unlock the door was worn and sagged over time to reach the point of activation by the solinoid for the keyless entry. To dianose the fault i placed a rubber band over the mechanism to take out the slack, Have not seen the problem for the last 9mths.

Still have not got this ghost whipped.I pulled the door lock relay (in panel over driver rear wheel) and have temp relieved the problem,tho my door locks only work manually at this time.,I have checked harness from under dash to rear panel without finding anything.I believe the problem to be in harness in this same panel and have not had the time to pull it apart to check.Unfortunately at this rate it will be next spring by the time I get to it.

Hi (I FIGURED IT OUT LOOK) my 1994 4 door 4x4 explore just started doing this yesterday where it just keep on an on unlocking when I took my buttons apart I seen the button has two copper points that when it's not engaged the little copper point was up if I pulled up on the flat part of the point it stopped unlocking over and over again but if I ever pushed the lock or unlock button it would stick the points where it connects was just wore out and when I let go of the button the points where staying together and causing it to act if thou I was pushing the button I tryed everything but it wouldn't stay where it needed to be so I took the inside of one of the window buttons and swaped them out had to cut the little key part off the old lock button so it would fit in the window button spot but that's all it took all a naked wire would do is blow the fuse thanks again the wire not the problem it was working just wouldn't stop locking your welcome
