I just bought a used 2001 Ford Explorer and what I have noticed is that the power locks (internal buttons and remote) only seem to control the passenger doors. No power lock button seems to control the rear lift gate or Window. I have to use the key, which works fine.

Does this seam normal, or is this something that is broken?

My old explorer was a 97 and it had a totally different rear opening mechaism and no remote. The power locks buttons inside the car controlled the locks on the rear liftgate and window however, so you see my confusion.

IF neither the lock or unlock function, then it would appear that the wire run to the actuator in the tail gate is a problem. If one or the other function works (lock versus unlock), then your guess is as good as mine .... :-) since both wires (there are only two running to actuator are needed for operation in either mode.
