Power Liftgate doesn't raise entirely

2013 Explorer Liftgate issues!

Hello all....Im very new to this forum and hoping to find some help!

I have a 2013 Ford Explorer Limited and the liftgate just started acting up. First it started to open but would only go up half way then it would close. It did that a few times then it flat out refused to lift at all. When you press the button on the key or on the dash the trunk door WILL unlock but NOT lift. So I take it to the dealership and they tell me I need the lift actuator. I purchased it on my own (for half the price at another dealer) and replaced it but its doing the same thing!! Opening but not lifting. Any ideas why it wont open? Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum.:wavey:
If you open it manually does it feel as though it might be binding anywhere?
I'm guessing that pressing the button on the liftgate also won't result in it lifting? Have you tried opening it all the way and then setting the liftgate height? There is also a procedure in the manual for resetting the 'gate'. Have you done that?

Thanks for responding.....Im not sure what you mean by "binding" but when I open it manually is does not stop/hold at any point...it closes right back down. I just disconnected the battery and now it opens and raises up on its own but then it beeps and closes right back down. It did that everytime I tried. I did try setting the liftgate height but it still closes back down by itself. Any other suggestions?

Other than taking it to the dealer I can't think of anything else. The fact that it chimes before closing I think seems to indicate it is getting a signal to close.

I think you need to check the door a little closer. I still agree with binding.

I would take the actuator off and open and close the door without it check for ANY spots of resistance.

This system is super sensitive. Any resistance causes the current in the actuators to surge and that is what causes the system to stop.
