Are you sure the switch is not in the center position?

As far as the illumination, I don't believe they are illuminated. At least they aren't on my '95. Did they change something in 98 and illuminate them?

The power mirror switch is not illuminated!

well, it still doesnt work when the switch is to the left OR right

First thing to do check fuse #1 on aux fuse panel 7.5A. Then pull the switch and check the plug for bad connection. You can test for juice in the socket if all checks out the prob the switch us. Hope this helps.:D

The "PMS" (heh-heh) on my 92 went kerflooey. Got a used one at the junkyard for around $5, but the painted white arrows on the used one were worn, so I swapped my good switch top onto the "new" switch innards--they just snap apart/together. Works great now. Good luck :)

That sounds like a good option, try and get another switch from a Salvage yard, and see if it works.

Your switch is probably bad, mine would only work in two directions: Down & Left. Good luck w/ junk yards, they usually want to sell the whole door. I was able to fix my P/Lock switch w/ contact cleaner and forced air.
