Has anyone added a cooler to their power stearing systm?

I remember years ago a friend added one from a Lincoln to his on a "Stang and it cured all the noise.

Thoughts...ideas....This sounds like a Gimp or Hank project....

Huh, never thought about that, is it just suppose to keep your fluid a little cooler? I don't see much sense in it with everything being right up front in the wind anyways, does the PS fluid actually get that hot??

Happy trails!!

You may already have one. I know that my 95 has one. It's directly in the front of the steering rack. It's just a little finned/tube type heat exchanger. I traced the lines and they come from the PS pump. Slide under the front of your truck and look. I'm not for sure that anything newer than my 95 will have it, but it's worth a look.

Heck, my 97 has one also, i was thinking i ripped that thing off when i got rid of my automatic but that was the cooler for the tranny. Nice, but for those that do not have it, does the fluid get pretty hot?

Happy trails!!

Thanks, Stephen, I just went out and crawled under the truck.... low and behold, I got onbe too.

And yes PS fluid does get very hot.

No problem. Yeah, the rack and pinion steering systems we have on our trucks do seem to get pretty hot. I'm not sure if models with a streering box have the coolers...I don't think my old Ranger did.

Yep mine has a cooler too. Won't making the change to syn quiet the noise?

It did in mine.

The older X's don't have-m. However, with the 35s and front locker my fluid was get-n Way-Hot. Installing the cooler cured the steering fade but did nothing for the noise. The noise is common to the Ford pumps and doesnt mean that the pump is failing..:redexp:
