I just did the seal kit for my sector shaft seal and need to go out and buy fluid....I have been using ATF fluid because its cheaper...should I refill with powersteering fluid or is ATF just as good....any comments appreciated

Jcarter, the two fluids are very similiar. I "think" the earlier models used PSF and the later ones use Mercon ATF. My 00 calls for ATF. I would use what the owners manual calls for in your model (which I think is PSF).

Thanks guys

Jcarter, I picked up a repair manual last night, and while thumbing through it, found the PS specs. The 91-95's use Ford Type F ATF. The 96's and later use Mercon ATF.

I have also seen specs on the early models as using PSF. I really don't think it matters much. There may be slight differences in the anti-foaming and seal swell additives in the Type F and PSF, but either one should work OK.
