Steering studder when turning.

I have a 98 2wd Ex. and just recently had the trans rebuilt. The rebuilder mentioned that the poping noise you may here is caused by your power steering pump, something about a vavle.

Anyway, the serpentine belt popped off this weekend, the belt tensioner was nowhere to be found??? Well I get a new tensioner and belt and take her for a spin. I noticed instantly that the steering would studder, especially turned to the right.

Would the cause of my steering studder be a power steering pump going bad? Or is there a worse issue brewing? FYI I've got new ball joints tie rod ends and shocks on the front end.

Thanks, Matt

most likely is air in the PS lines/rack. Go to a big parking lot and do a few lock-to-lock figure 8's, that'll get all the air out.

I've had that happen just about every time it's been on a rack.

Thanks for the reply. Makes me feel much better! That seems to be my issue. I've put about 50 miles on it since it happened and with the driving its seem to work the air out. All the symptoms seem to be gone thus morning. But I think for the fun of it I'm headed out to a parking lot to do some figure 8 lock to locks!

Thanks again for your help!

I drain and refill my PS every 45k
It feels great after each service.
I use Valvoline full synth.

do you fully drain it (i.e. open it up at its lowest point) or just suck everything you can out of the reservoir?

yup
lowest point.
There is a ine that goes into the rack that is easily acessable.
