- 2000 Foerd Explorer v-8
I have a 2000 Ford Explorer V-8, with over 250k miles. I have had this vehicle for over 12 years. Needless to say it has been one of the most reliable and dependable vehicles I have ever owned in my life. Yesterday as I was driving home, my power steering went out on me, and the battery light lit up on the instrument panel. I was able to drive the truck home, but it was difficult without the power steering. When I got home I immediately checked the power steering fluid reservoir, and it it was full. Not being mechanically savvy, I don't know what else to do. But as I stated, the battery light illuminated on the panel, and I did notice, that when I rolled up my windows in the truck, they appeared to roll up slow in a sluggish manner. Could the battery attribute to the problem of the power steering going out on me? There was a lot of corrosion build up around the battery cables. Could a new battery and the clean up around the battery cables be the source of my problem with the power steering? Any advice or suggestions would be very helpful!
