Power steering problem

HI,can anyone give me some advice over here in england as ford cant,when turning the steering wheel it starts ok then goes stiff then ok then stiff again this happens all way to either left or right lock and when stationary or moving,fluid is ok.various power steering companies say its the pump and one says its the seals in the rack ,car is not modified,any ideas,thanks

ps not sure what a rack costs in usa but my dealership wants 634.00 dollars exchange

its mst likely the pump. mine has been replaced 2 times.
 






Have you checked your power steering fluid level? If that's not low your ps pump needs to be replaced.
 






Thanks for the advice,will go for pump,believe it or not problem hasnt shown itself for last day or so but will change it anyway as have some long miles ahead.
 






My 96 did that once and a mechanic friend of mine said to turn the wheel all the way to the left and hold it there (you will notice tha sound of the relief valve popping open) then turn to the right and do the same thing . It fixed mine . I guess if alittle piece of trash gets stuck in the relief valve it will hang open a little and make it do that . If that dosent fix your problem Id get a pump .
