My 96 six cylinder power steering blew out the other day. In-laws are here, its been raining like crazy for the past few days and I have been filling pump up about every 1.5 days. Haven't identified the issue yet but its puddling in the middle under the rack for the most part. Don't know if its running down from the hoses or if the rack is bad. If I have to replace pump or lines, is it something I can do myself? I was thinking pick up a pump and hoses at the u-pull it. I did a few pump swaps on my 82 GT back in the day. thanks for any help

Consider the age of donor vehicles before getting wear items like a pump or hoses from a junkyard. Maybe you'll get lucky and find a donor vehicle whose owner had already replaced them but you can probably pick them up from Amazon or Rock Auto for a little under $100 total delivered.

I'd look under there while you have someone else turn the steering wheel, maybe you just have a bad hose...

The PS pumps and rack are expensive, but skip the old unknown used parts. Rock Auto is very good to buy most parts, I got a PS pump recently(OEM) the core was $40 for that. Ford still sells the remanufactured rack for about $150 I discovered too, that's better than many other brands.
